Overseas employees | Remuneration issues, regulations and common pitfalls
When employing people overseas, it is important to have the right processes, knowledge and documentation in place. This is essential not only to avoid costly mistakes as an employer, but also to ensure a secure experience for the employee. From a clear remuneration strategy covering salary, occupational pension and other benefits to planning the practical aspects of relocation – where knowledge and key details can make a big difference.
Many employers today face increasing complexity when managing overseas employees – whether sending their staff abroad, welcoming international employees to Sweden or managing returning employees. The challenges range from legislation and tax rules to salary, pensions, remuneration, security and employer branding. These topics and more were covered in FörsäkringsGirot’s webinar on 15 May.
Joining us this time is Dan Rådman, Head of Reward & HR Systems REN at Linde Gas, who has many years of experience in this area from several international companies. Also joining us is the audit and advisory firm BDO, which has extensive experience in matters relating to overseas employees and providing support in this area. Erik Hedlund, tax adviser and Global Mobility expert, will explore what applies when an employee works internationally – including common pitfalls, nightmare scenarios and how employers can best avoid them. We will also hear from Mikaela Nygren, certified payroll consultant/business developer, about specific financial implications for both employers and individuals when working overseas.
Examples of questions and topics we cover:
How can overseas employees be managed correctly and securely? – What tax legislation applies, both in Sweden and in the host country, and how should you best structure your internal policy?
Costs and remuneration – What is reasonable remuneration, and how can you prevent overseas employment from becoming more expensive than planned?
What are the common pitfalls, and how can you avoid them? – We share practical examples of what can go wrong and how to avoid finding yourself in that situation.
